Paychecks For Patriots

Five years ago the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development made veteran employment a top priority. The Agency teamed up with Dollar General Corporation to launch the Paychecks for Patriots hiring event in cities across Tennessee. It was an idea that has become the largest one-day hiring event in the state.

Paychecks for Patriots is not your typical job fair, it is truly a hiring event. Each employer who participates is vetted to ensure they have available full-time jobs for veterans. Often, job interviews take place at the event and veterans find instant employment.

This year Paychecks for Patriots will be on October 18th in four cities; Memphis, Nashville, Clarksville, and Knoxville from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Since Paychecks for Patriots started in 2012, veteran unemployment in Tennessee has steadily declined. While there are fewer veterans currently looking for work, there are still American heroes in the state without jobs and the Agency will continue to work towards finding them jobs.

That is the reason behind the evolution of this year’s Nashville Paycheck for Patriots event. The city is experiencing tremendous growth and a shortage of workers in seven in-demand fields. The event will focus on these sectors; information technology, hospitality, construction, retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and government. The concourse at Bridgestone Arena will be divided by sectors and an industry leader from the different sectors will speak to small groups of job seekers about the opportunities available within their company. It is a new approach to matching the right veteran, with the right career.

Also in Nashville, veterans will be honored during that night’s Nashville Predators hockey game. Sponsors have supplied Paychecks for Patriots with tickets to give to a certain number of veterans who attend the hiring event earlier in the day.

Across the state, dozens of employers will take part in Paychecks for Patriots, offering quality jobs from Knoxville to Memphis. Those employers never pay a fee to participate in the event and they have become accustom to the quality applicants they find each year at Paychecks for Patriots.

This year Paychecks for Patriots will be held in Memphis at the American Job Center on Walnut Grove Road, in Clarksville at the American Job Center on Madison Street, in Knoxville at the Wallace Memorial Baptist Church on Merchant Drive, and in Nashville at Bridgestone Arena.

Veteran job seekers can register before the event by going to, or they can do so at the door on the day of the event. Employers are welcome to inquire about becoming part of Paychecks for Patriots until October 14th.

Paychecks for Patriots is a public-private partnership that has been recognized by the United States Department of Labor and the goal of the partnership is simple; to help find jobs for Tennessee’s veterans.
